Mica sheet is a rigid or flexible laminate built from mica paper and a suitable binder, used where a flat, high-temperature electrical or thermal barrier is required. It withstands continuous heat that would destroy plastics or elastomers, while maintaining dielectric strength.

YT MICA produces mica sheets in several grades for motors, transformers, switchgear, industrial heating equipment and appliance applications. Sheets can be supplied in standard formats or cut to size.

Grades

Rigid and flexible mica sheet

Rigid Mica Sheet

High mechanical strength and dimensional stability, suitable for structural insulation components such as slot insulation, barriers and supports where the part must hold its shape under load and heat.

  • Motor and generator slot insulation
  • Transformer barriers and spacers
  • Switchgear and busbar insulation

Flexible Mica Sheet

Bendable and conformable, allowing insulation to be wrapped or formed around irregular geometries. Useful where the part must follow a curved surface without cracking.

  • Wound and formed insulation
  • Heating element carriers
  • Appliance thermal barriers
Key Properties

Why mica sheet performs where other materials fail

Thermal resistanceContinuous high temperature
Dielectric strengthStable electrical insulation
Flame behaviourIncombustible mineral base
Chemical stabilityChemically neutral, non-toxic

Because the base material is a mineral, mica sheet does not burn and does not propagate flame. It is chemically neutral and halogen-free, so it does not release the corrosive or toxic gases associated with some polymer insulation in a fire.

Sheet dimensions, thickness and grade can be tailored to your drawing. Tolerances are confirmed on the agreed datasheet.

Standards & documentation

Our mica materials and machined components are tested and supplied against the international standards our customers reference: IEC 60243-1:2013, IEC 60371-2:2004 and IEC 62631-3-2. Datasheets are confirmed against the agreed specification for each order.
